wow [18 Jun 2005|03:46pm]
i've been going to some AMAZING shows lately where my brains just melt from the heat and my heart soars from the amazing combination of music and magic and people... my car died in the parking lot at school on wednesday and i literally screamed out of joy when the Triple A man took out his magic power-jumping box and turned the key and my car screeched to life... seriously, she screamed so loud I couldn't help but think she was yelling at me for leaving her all alone at school for 2 nights, but i just jumped up and down and seriously hugged my car and i didn't give a damn if anyone thought i was weird.

spring is in the air [05 Jun 2005|12:41am]
[ mood | cheerful ]

we have baby birds in a nest in a hot chocolate box in out garage!

and the kindergarten class at my mom's school has been hatching chickens and ducks... so there's all these little ducklings and chicks... and the "chicken gotta butter" haha

and it got nice a warm for a bit yesterday (and more today) and driving with the windows down while blasting "bright spring morning" by the suburban legends makes me feel invincible...

i'm also falling in love with new york city, i had the best cherry vanilla milkshake of my life, and i'm getting an A in my summer Statistics course so far!

now all i need is some tape and a buck... all i need is that superdollar, haha.

P.S. I finally dug out my Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer cd to give it a listen since they're going to be playing with RBF at the end of the month, and it's great! I don't know why it took me so long to listen to it! And i went to see Big D and the Kids Table last Sunday and David McWane himself grabbed my butt! it was awesome!

P.P.S. and i think i have a crush again... haha, time to wake up the butterflies that have been hibernating in my stomach!

Shakespeare had his good days.... [26 Apr 2005|10:30pm]
I dunno what it is about being sick, but it always seems to make me realize how simple it really is to spread happiness... if you just have the courage to smile at a stranger, chances are they'll smile back... and then maybe they'll smile at someone, and it's like, contagious. and you don't have to hablo espanol to the muchachos y chicas in Dover to be able to smile!

On the off-chance you like Shakespeare or like seeing college boys prance around in colorful tights...

walk on by [18 Apr 2005|09:05am]
Thursday, April 14, 2005

I was sitting on the floor in the hallway outside the art room waiting for the class that was in there to get out and open studio hours to start, and i happened to be rubbing my eye when some guy walked by, and he stopped and asked if i was ok. most people wouldn't have the heart or guts to do that for a stranger.

oh, so... an acutal update... with a "moment" and a "day" [08 Apr 2005|05:16pm]
Thursday, April 7, 2005

It was POURING when i left Color Theory last night, and as I shuffled and wobbled down Cardiac Hill in the rain with my art box and stuff, the kids next to me exclaims at one guy who nearly ran us over cuz he was running so fast, "hey, it's not gonna kill you!" and then he continued to stroll casually down the hill. Then I remembered how much i LOVE the rain, so i slowed down to a comfortable pace and let my face get soaked while humming "Happy When It Rains" by Garbage... and it felt so good.

Spring is Broken? (March 11-22) [08 Apr 2005|05:01pm]
So... my spring break was from March 11th to March 21st... and I spent most of it in California... it was famazing. I flew into Long Beach Airport on the 12th and then flew out of Ontario (California, not Canada... i was confused) really early in the morning on March 22nd (so i could make it back in time for my History of Graphic Design mid-term exam... which i got an A on!)

But seriously, my trip was so awesome, i nearly died of awesome overload... maybe i'll go back into this entry and edit in some pictures... tho i still haven't done that for my trip to Georgia, haha... but I had such an amazing time the whole time I was there. and everyone I met was so great :)

days don't matter [11 Mar 2005|02:03pm]
since i've been really out of it as far as keeping track of this stuff, i'm not gonna post specific dates for this entry, just list some things that have happend in the past month or so...

-I went to the Met with mommy... we were in the Fashion Institute and it was getting really crowded like, gross claustrophobia crowded (i don't even have claustrophobia, but there were just too many people) and i was starting to freak out when i overheard some lady say in a low, husky, southern accent, "I like the hats with the dead birds on 'em..." it struck me as hysterical, and suddenly the crowds of people weren't bothering me anymore.

-Random person at school pushed the button that holds the doors at school open for handicapped people when he saw how much stuff i was carrying (art supplies). I actually wasn't going that way, but it was a nice little random act of kindness.

-Becky called me in art class the other day to tell me that the littlest man band had been added to the show we're going to next saturday... i nearly pee'd my pants, i was so excited.

-I had a button on my purse that said "ask me about my obsession" .. and a woman at JoAnn Fabrics did!

- I left my house to go to play practice, and it was raining. As i was driving the rain got thicker and slushier, and by the time i arrived at school it had turned to snow. one of the coolest things i've ever seen; watching the rain turn to snow on your windsheild.

-The Crackers:

-Breakfast at Denny's with the Ambassadors crew at the District 2 CASE/ASAP conference (because no one wants to eat frozen muffins for breakfast!)

-Natasha and I went to Rita's today (because it just opened today!!!!) and got mango ices... and then i sand to my ice, "ooh, i have waited for you... you make me wanna RITA's!" heheh so good.

-Picture hopefully coming soon of a sign at the pet store that had been mutilated so that it looked like it said "doodle sex" ... i want some doodle sex! hahaha

I leave for California South tomorrow cuz i'm on SPRING BREAK! wooo! stay warm, kiddos!

P.S. Happy 311 Day!

Feb. 14 - 17 [18 Feb 2005|11:33am]
Thursday, February 17, 2005

Kyle and i went to the A&P in Randolph on the way home from my class (i left early cuz i have the plague... or bronchitis... or something) and there was this little girl shopping with her parents... but she was skipping and jumping and running around, singing nonsense to herself. it was so adorable and she was so happy, and when her dad noticed me smiling, he smiled too. smiles, joy, and sung nonsense... it doesn't get much better, right? haha

Wednesday, February 16, 2005

Driving past park lake i saw 3 people who were there to walk their dogs (4 little dogs in total) and the dogs were all sniffing eachother and prancing and seemed so excited to meet other dogs... it was adorable... and i love that puppies and little kids, etc. don't put up a front or get freaked out when they meet new people... it's not a test to see how cool you are, or who's more scene, and it doesn't have to be scary, cuz there are a lot of good people in the world... it's exciting! as it should be! right?

Tuesday, February 15, 2005

So, i'm leaving school around... 11:20-ish after History of Graphic Design to go home and check on Travis (he's home sick... with bronchitis, i later learn) and as i'm waiting in a rediculously long line of traffic to get off campus, i look in my rear-view mirror and see this woman, now she's not old, just definately older than your typical college student, and she's dancing and singing in her car, clapping her hands, and everything, completely oblivious to everyone around her, just having an awesome time rocking out in her car -- i know i am often that lady, and i hope i still will be pulling out the N Sync style moves in my car when i'm in my 40's

update [14 Feb 2005|08:32pm]
so it's been a long time since i've updated... but it's not because 2005 isn't full of great moments... so, when i was in Georgia (i spent the first 3 days of the new year driving down to SCAD with Natasha and her roomie Kristen, then i stayed until the 9th- it was fabulous!) i kept track of all the fun stuff we did each day -- i had such a great time while i was there, that i just have lots of funny moments

then i didn't actually update my journal when i got home... i still was kinda keeping track of moments of the day, but on Sunday, January 23rd, Heather and I were on our way home from NYC and I experienced a truly touching moment, and it made me remember what this journal is all about...

so now it'd been over a month, and I've decided it's about time... so... enjoy

Sunday, January 23rd, 2005

After venturing into the city in the blizzard on Saturday, January 22nd to go to Three Floors of Ska at the Knitting Factory in Tribeca, Heather and I spent the night sleeping on the futon-mattress-on-the-floor in Erin's dorm room at SVA (School of Visual Arts). Good times were had by all, and it was definately an experience I will never forget. So on Sunday, we were on the PATH train, on our way to Hoboken to take the train home to Denville, and someone had dropped a winter hat on the ground near the seats where Heather and I decided to sit. After we were already seated, an elderly asian man sat down next to me. When we got to Hoboken, Heather and I got up to leave, and as we started to walk away, the man picked up the hat and held it out to me, but I didn't see him, and he apparently didn't speak English. He still managed to get my attention though, and I attempted to explain that the hat wasn't mine. I was very touched by the kindness this stranger showed, and how kindness isn't bound by the borders of languages.

The last 3 days of 2004 [16 Jan 2005|02:14pm]
Friday, December 31, 2004

New Years Eve... spent going out for Chinese food with the family, having dinner with Natasha, her mom, and her roomie at some random people's house, then hanging out at Marty's... best moment... getting a taco-flavored kiss on the cheek from Marty's hand as Jennifer Lopez, followed closely by Pat Lavery holding up a glass of soda and quoting lame chorus music in a mock toast: "many things we will forget in the days to come, but this will not be one of them!"

Thursday, December 30, 2004

We took Louise to the Rockaway Diner so she could experience a New Jersey Diner breakfast (we split pancakes and a Taylor Ham, Egg, and Cheese on a Hard Roll)... later we went to TIGS bowling, and after that we left to drive Lou back to the city, where she was supposed to meet her Mum and sister for an 8pm performance of Mama Mia! ... it'd suffice to say we got a little lost when we tried to avoid Lincoln Tunnel traffic by taking the Path Train from Hoboken... details and visuals can be found here in my MySpace blog (scroll down to the maps, woot!)
while I don't think Heather and Louise enjoyed the evening much... I think it was a particularly exciting adventure in retrospect...
and of course, the "Wednesday-and-Thursday-that-felt-like-a-weekend" would not have been complete without all sorts of fun british slang... hehe "saucy minx!"

Wednesday, December 29, 2004

Heather and I ventured into the city to meet Louise, our friend from The Littlest Man Band message board who was 'on holiday' (from England) in NYC with her mum and sister... we parked the pink car at the Port Authority parking garage, and in a weird coincidence, ended up in an elevator with 4 other girls who attend/attended Morris Knolls...
We met Lou in the lobby of her Fancy Shmancy hotel... then went upstairs to meet her mum (and sister), and listened to music while we waited for some British rock star, Jont, to stop by... he was gorgeous, and so British (he even had a purple velvet jacket). After leaving the hotel we met up with my dad for a mini tour of some cool music stores, rockerfeller center, and lunch (we had Subway in the subway - one of Louise's life goals, haha)

Louise's mum agreed to let her sleep over Heather's house, so after we were done NYC-ing for the day, we returned to the pink car and drove home to New Jersey - stopping at Fountains of Wayne on the way home, of course! We ate dinner with my family at my house (Hamburger Helper, cuz she'd never had it). We continued to do things that Louise had never done for the rest of the evening -- we hung out at the mall, went to Dunkin' Donuts (where we totally lucked out, because, true to the stereotype, there was a cop car and 2 cops eating donuts and drinking coffee inside!), went to 7-11 (and got slurpees), and then went back to Heather's to watch Napoleon Dynamite before we went to sleep.

Some other highlights of the day include:

** when I tried to buy Louise a pack of cigarettes, and the lady took my I.D. and asked how old I am... and I said "18... and a half!" and then she told me she couldn't sell me cigarettes because "it says 18, not 18 and a half" ... haha, wtf?

** Prescription meds in England come in the little foil punch-out sheets, so I tried to convince Lou to swap some prozac with me... but we didn't. (we're on the same dosage)

** jokes about Lou's mum and her friend McGowan "McGayFace" dating, haha

but by far the best momenet of the day was driving home from NY, and we passed a movie theater, and I asked Lou if they showed American films in England, and she exclaimed "What else are they going to show, Bollywood!?!?!"

Sunday, December 26, 2004

Christmas-day get-together at our house... cousins, food, Napoleon Dynamite, baking cookies, presents, Aunts and Uncles... one of the best Christmases in years :)

Friday, December 24, 2004

Christmas Eve... we didn't stick with any of our old holiday traditions (so no get-together with grandad and Maria's side of the family, and no early presents) but Daddy and I had to dress up as Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus and deliver presents to the home of one of Mommy's coworkers... they had the cutest little dog ever, and a daughter named Barrett - crazy!

Thursday, December 23, 2004

TIGS went caroling at the hospital... it felt so good to see some of the patients get excited or even start singing along, occasionally we'd stop outside a room where they'd make a request, or we sang "feliz navidad" if we passed a patient who only spoke spanish. a lot of the people in the hosiptal seemed really appreciative... and what can i say? "when you help others, you can't help helping yourself"

Wednesday, December 22, 2004

In the afternoon I went to Dawn's house, where I got to see Tina and meet Dawn's friend Eric, and we baked LOTS of cookies. Later imusicast.com rebroadcast The Littlest Man Band's set from 12/18, and this time i was able to watch is clear as satellite TV... and then I went to a TIGS meeting where we baked even more cookies! Baking cookies + LMB + friends = good day! :)

Jesse Wilder has the greatest userpic EVER on myspace... it's the funniest thing i've seen since Avenue Q! <3

Also, while at the mall (after dropping off Heather, while waiting for Natasha... haha, i made 2 mall trips) I spent about 10 minutes watching the puppies wrestle and play in the pet store window... and watching all the other people who would stop to watch them.

Saturday, December 18, 2004

Well, the imusicast of The Littlest Man Band's set didn't come through very well, but the excitement in the chat room leading up to it was sure fun!

Thursday, December 16, 2004

OH MY GOD! So Natasha and I went into the city today... we took the one o' clock train in... went shopping... both got shoes at Macy's (rock!)... walked all over midtown manhattan (didn't want to take the subway)... etc.
We went back to the theater where we had seen Lone Star Love on Tuesday, because it turns out one of the women in the cast was Beth Leavel-- Crazy For You's original broadway Tess (and I was Morris Knolls' Tess) and we didn't get to meet her, but one of the other cast members took in my program and she signed it for me! :)
then... Avenue Q. Avenue Q. Avenue Q! oh my god, i don't even have words for how amazing that was. and after the show we bought a lot of stuff and met the whole cast (minus Stephanie and Natalie, aka Kate Monster/Lucy T. Slut and Gary Coleman) and got them to sign stuff... AND Jeff Marx, one of the show's writers was there, so he signed stuff too. And i got a peach passion fruit smoothie for the train ride home (at midnight, haha) ... so many many many many great moments this day... !

Wednesday, December 15, 2004

Jackie Powers called me!!!!!! I haven't seen that girl in AGES! it was so great

While waiting for my portfolio review to begin i got hot chocolate... which wasn't very chocolately.. so i added some mini Nestle's Crunch bells and stirred it up... delicious, crunchy hot chocolate + an A in Drawing II + end of my first semester at college = great... even if i didn't get out of there until 10:35pm, I walked to my car and i was FREE! a successful college student! yay!

Tuesday, December 14, 2004

Natasha's family treated me to a night on the town! Well, we took the train into the city and met N's dad at work (he works at B&H, where they have all these bowls of kosher candy out... they were like laffy taffy... so good!) and then we went to dinner at a nice NYC diner/restaurant, and then we went to see Lone Star Love, an off-broadway country western musical telling of Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor -- it was hysterical, and they had free (real, not from powder) lemonade and Lorna Doones cookies on the stage at intermission!! the best song in the show was definately the one sung by a fat drunk southerner about "cold cold cash and hot hot sex" -- my brother Kyle needs to see this show.

Monday, December 13, 2004

After my English final (huzzah! it's over!) i did my self portrait for drawing class... and i am SO happy with the way it came out! [picture soon]
later that evening I was watching the puppies in the pet store window at the mall... so cute. so warm and fuzzy. just like how it made me feel inside, hehe!

Wednesday, December 8, 2004

OMGZORZ! I bought myself a copy of the Avenue Q score!!! AND i didn't have Drawing (my final review is next wednesday) so I had the whole evening free (which I spent with Natasha) and it was so lovely!

Tuesday, December 7, 2004

After our final Dance for Musical Theater class (in which we did a combination to "All That Jazz" -- rowr!) we had a secret santa chinese auction style gift exchange, and I got The Wiz on dvd!!! Yess! Then Ali, Carlee, and I went to Fridays and I tried Jack Daniels sauce for the first time - yum!!!! and I went on AIM using Ali's wireless SidekickII, so I felt super-hip and hi-tech, haha

Sunday, December 5, 2004

I went to the Newark Museum, and I loved it so much!
They have an exhibition (on display until the end of February) of all these gorgeous, glitzy handbags and coin purses etc. by this woman, Nancy Reagan. Can you imagine owning something like this? I mean, if you're gonna have a wallet that's worth more money than you'll ever keep in it or a purse that's worth more than your life... screw Louis Vuitton, and get something that's more closely worth what it costs!

Black Friday -- Yay! I went into the city with Nikki (i had to go to the Met). November 21st and 22nd - Long Island [06 Dec 2004|11:13am]
Sunday, Novemeber 21, 2004

So... sunday, I had the most amazing day. Heather and Tasha and I left in my pink car to drive to Long Island around 1pm... on the way we stopped at a gas station to get oil (cuz i literally had no oil in my car) and a woman driving a bright yellow hearse pulled in at the same time as us -- it was crazy! one side had clouds and one side had flames and the license plate was an abbreviation of "heaven or hell" -- she said she does parades, parties (including divorce parties!) and used to drive a pink hearse! she also said she wanted to dye her hair pink and asked heather and I what we had used - hahaha! it was awesome! and the guys at the gas station did everything for me and gave me a discount... 10 points for wearing a shirt that accentauates my boobs!

so we got to the Downtown in Farmingdale, LI around 2:30... Nick was already there waiting. Melee and TLMB were not there (they had stayed elsewhere and obviously had no reason to be at the venue so early... LMB was actually in the city for the day. funny pics on their website) and the RBF guys were in their bus (supposedly sleeping.. does it matter? no) but we talked to the merch guy (mike/"the chib") and milo and Tom the tour guy a little before venturing off to find food and entertainment in lovely little Farmingdale... which is apparently one of those towns that shuts down on Sundays (freaking blue laws) ... even the pharmacy was closed!!! But we found a place to buy (extremely overpriced) batteries for my camera and had Chinese food for an afternoon snack.

A spectacular afternoon and evening was had by all, with activities including me trying to take a nap while Tasha tried to write her college essay (she was more successful than I), playing Mad Libs with Danny (Regan) and Aaron (Barrett), meeting some kids... who just happen to be the sister and boyfriend-of-the-sister of this kid Andrew, who I met in Florida by some weird instinctual RBF fan connection (aka he was wearing a checkered wrist band), the arrival of my brothers and father... attempting to get something for dinner at the worst 7-11 EVER EVER EVER EVER, parler-ing with Chris from melee, waiting in line, me bugging out whilst being annoyed by my brothers, fabulous performances from each band, the collection of autographs on various items, tasha's sweatshirt being replaced with someone else's black sweatshirt (creepy), and a late-night parking lot party of sorts out back of the downtown after the show.

Pictures from the event can be found here
and Nick has a more detailed summary of the day in his blog on myspace

It was such an amazing day, but i really think that the "moment of the day" was when Tony (Ortega) was telling Tasha and me all about the history of gypsies... and i definately need to watch the history channel more often (i got turned off by it when Brad used to watch the Nazi specials all day)

So... we left the downtown... after midnight, i think... so the days kind of blended into eachother...
Now, i don't know why we didn't just follow Nick home, since we left at the same time and we had to go the same way to get back to Jersey... but... we didn't. And we got lost. A few times. phone calls were made to my father, to nick... and later to heather and tasha's parents, explaining that we had gotten lost and they would be home really late... That night I came to the conclusions that New York must be the state with the stupidest highways, because when I got on one road in the wrong direction... there was no way for me to turn around unless i wanted to risk getting onto another highway and attempting to turn around there and then get back to the road i had been on before... in the opposite direction. they don't even have breaks in the median for making illegal U-Turns at 2 AM! seriously. stupid highways. so... long story short... we drove through queens and ended up in Brooklyn... where we turned around and drove all the way back through queens to where we had originally made a wrong turn.... and got home around 3 AM. Not so late... but it was a school night, and we should have been home when we were leaving the Downtown... so Tasha got grounded. but it was certainly an adventure. I slept almost the entire rest of the day, and when i wasn't sleeping i was still in a daze.

My moment of the day on Monday, November 22, 2004 was undoubtedly when we FINALLY got going back in the right direction and we drove under an overpass and as we came out, a giant sign with the words "NEW JERSEY" on it came into view, and we all yelled "NEW JERSEY!!!!" and Tasha exlaimed "Right now, that's the most beautiful word I've ever read!" .... .... and Heather and I were just like "...that's two words."
Then we all laughed and the credits rolled like one of those corny teen movies. THE END!
